Sweet Wormwood Extract High-Dose 30:1 with 21% Artemisinin

The sale of Artemisia annua as a food or food supplement is currently not permitted in Germany and the EU. The reason for this is the EU's so-called Novel Food Regulation from 2015. It regulates the import and sale of products that were sold only in small quantities in Europe before 15 May 1997.

Artemisia annua (annual/sweet wormwood) itself, however, is neither banned nor harmful to health. Neither the cultivation nor the sale of the plant itself, nor its processing, is prohibited. What is currently not permitted is labelling and marketing Artemisia annua as a „food supplement“ within the EU. Our Artemisia annua extract is a pure botanical raw material, explicitly not intended for oral consumption (not a food or food ingredient). Please take this into account when further using or processing the raw material.

Artemisinin - in 2015, the discovery of the secondary plant compound artemisinin was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine. The plant itself has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years.

The production of our dual extract from Artemisia annua (sweet wormwood) involves two different extraction methods to obtain a broader range of active compounds from the plant. Our plants are cultivated in southern Germany and freshly harvested every year.

1. Drying and comminution: After harvesting, the leaves and flowers are gently dried and ground to create a larger surface area for extraction.

2. Hydrophilic (aqueous) extraction: In the first extraction step, the dried plant material is extracted in warm water. After extraction, the aqueous extract is filtered and the water evaporated to obtain a concentrated solution of the water-soluble compounds.

3. Liposoluble (alcoholic) extraction: In the second step, the plant material is steeped in food-grade alcohol to extract the fat-soluble compounds such as artemisinin and other terpenes. This extract is then also filtered, and the alcohol evaporated to obtain a concentrated lipophilic extract. The extract's colour is now brownish rather than green, unlike simple Artemisia annua leaf powder.

4. Combining the extracts: In the final step, the two extracts obtained (aqueous and alcoholic) are combined to produce the dual extract, which contains both the water- and fat-soluble active compounds of the plant.

The dried, pure 30:1 extract is filled into our brown PET tins along with a small dosing spoon. 100% free from additives, colourants, or fillers. Production has always taken place under the strictest requirements in Germany – without compromise.
