A product with "500 mg per daily dose" across three capsules delivers less per capsule than one with "300 mg per capsule". Anyone who overlooks this is comparing apples with oranges.

What "% NRV" really tells you

NRV stands for "Nutrient Reference Value" (formerly referred to as RDA). "100% NRV" means the daily dose covers the reference value of an average adult. Magnesium oxide does contain a lot of magnesium per gram on paper, but it is absorbed less well than magnesium citrate or bisglycinate. Likewise, iron bisglycinate differs from iron sulfate, and vitamin B12 as methylcobalamin from cyanocobalamin. This form specification is perhaps the most valuable piece of quality information on the entire label – and the one most readily left out on the advertising front.

Putting health claims in perspective
