Research focuses above all on the characteristic key compounds – ginsenosides in ginseng, withanolides in ashwagandha – and the processes in which they might be involved in the body. Honestly assessed and within the legal framework: for both plants, no conclusive, officially recognised health claims have so far been authorised in the EU; the evaluation of these botanicals is not yet complete. What can seriously be stated is: the scientific interest in both roots is great and ongoing, their marker substances are at the centre, and robust, authorised claims of effect do not (yet) exist.
